Driving in Europe. Arrive before Dark.
I try to take pictures of signs, so I have a clue as to where I was. A smart phone is perfect for this. Even with GPS, I've learned it's still easier to find your hotel in the daylight. Plus, many smaller hotels don't like late arrivals. Only when we arrived at Neuschwanstein Castle at 10PM, did we realize we'd driven too far. The next morning this area had hundreds of fellow tourists.
