The golden morning light is wonderful for photography, not only because its color temperature is warmer, but the contrast range is less (right photo). This means, when you expose for the bright areas (highlights), the shadows will be less dark and provide more color and detail than at mid-afternoon.
The left photo was take at noon. Here, I composed the entire image in the shadows, with no bright areas (highlights). This mimics a cloudy sky and a low contrast range. This diffuse light yields great detail and color saturation. Restaurants in Venice, Italy.
